How to create a firewall rule to allow/disallow use of a certain application in ESET Cyber Security Pro?

  • An application (for example iTunes) is not working or having connectivity issues after installing ESET Cyber Security Pro .
  • You want to configure the ESET firewall to block incoming or outgoing Internet communications for a specific application .

·         1 -   Create a rule to allow an application :-

 1.      Open ESET Cyber Security Pro. How do I open my ESET product?
 
2.      Click Setup → Firewall and then click Setup.



Make sure that Auto with exceptions is selected from the Filtering Mode drop-down menu and click Add.
3.      Click Browse.





4.      Select the application that you want to create an exception for and then click Select



5.      Type a name for your new rule into the Name field and click next.




6.      Select Allow from the Action drop-down menu, select Both from the Direction drop-down menu (you can also select In or Out to create a rule that only allows incoming or outgoing communications) and click Next




7.      Configure the Protocol and Port settings. To create a rule to always allow the application, select TCP & UDPfrom the Protocol drop-down menu, select Both from the Ports drop-down menu and then select All from the Local Port and Remote Port drop-down menus. You can achieve more custom rules using different combinations of the Protocol and Port settings. Once you are finished, click next




8.      In the Destination window you can define whether your rule applies for the entire Internet, for your local network, for a specific subnet or for a specific IP address or range of IP addresses. Select Entire Internet to create a rule to always allow the application. Click Finish when you are done making changes to create your new rule, and then close the Firewall window to return to the main program window.


II. Create a rule to block an application

1.      Open ESET Cyber Security Pro. How do I open my ESET product?
 
2.      Click Setup → Firewall and then click Setup.


3.      Make sure that Auto with exceptions is selected from the Filtering Mode drop-down menu and click Add.



4.       Click Browse.




5.      Select the application that you want to create an exception for and then click Select
